Unlike many professional teams, the Vancouver Canucks have had the same name since they were founded 1945. They originally played in what was then known as the Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL). They played in this league from 1945 – 1952. The PCHL then became known as the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the Vancouver Canucks played in this league from 1952 – 1970. Finally, the Vancouver Canucks joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1970 and have been playing in this league ever since.
