The franchise was founded in 1974 as an expansion franchise, when they were originally known as the New Orleans Jazz. The team moved to Salt Lake City in 1979 and changed their name to the Utah Jazz. Two of the team’s franchise players included John Stockton and Karl Malone in the late 80’s, and they formed one of the most famous point guard–power forward duos in NBA history.
