The franchise was founded in 1901 when they were originally known as the Milwaukee Brewers. They were one of eight franchises to join Major League Baseball (MLB) when it was established in 1901. The franchise officially moved to Baltimore in 1954 and they changed their name to the Baltimore Orioles, after the state bird of Maryland. Some of the star players to play for the franchise include Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell and Cal Ripken, Jr.
