Here are some interesting facts about the New Orleans Saints:
The franchise was founded in 1966 but played their first game in 1967. The Saints were not very competitive in their first 20 seasons in the NFL, only getting to .500 twice. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast region. Displaced residents used the Superdome as an emergency temporary shelter. But the stadium was also damaged from the hurricane, mostly from flooding and part of the roof was torn off. The Saints had to play their home games in other stadiums until the Superdome was repaired and renovated in time for the 2006 season at an estimated cost of US$185 million.
